Markel sees income rise by $245m in 2006
Markel Corporation has recorded an impressive 2006, with net income up from $148m in 2005 to $393m, largely attributable to improved underwriting performance.
The overall combined ratio for the company in 2006 was 87%, compared to 101% the previous year. This included $54.9m in losses relating to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
