Industry handles second hurricane in US

Florida has taken the impact of a second hurricane which has caused extensive damage and flooding over coastal areas of the state although is now downgraded to a tropical storm as it moves further north. The State Emergency Operations Centre in Florida is warning that “Frances is producing copious amounts of rainfall as the hurricane traverses the state. Rainfall amounts of 8 to 12 inches, with locally higher amounts, are expected along Frances' path.” Loss of power has been another major problem, with as many as 2 million home affected.

However the indications so far are that the insurance impact, although complicated by the Charley and Frances coming so close together is still manageable. The Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.)
