Career File: Richard Ward: Former Lloyd’s CEO takes on roles at DLG

Direct Line Group has appointed Richard Ward to the board as a non-executive director and senior independent director.

Ward is chairman of Brit, executive chairman of Cunningham Lindsey Group, and an NED and chairman of the Remuneration Committee of Partnership Assurance Group. He is also a member of the Prudential Regulation Authority’s Practitioner Panel.

He was CEO of Lloyd’s of London from 2006 to 2013. He was previously CEO, later vice-chairman, of ICE Futures. Ward has also been an NED of London Clearing House, a member of the PWC advisory board and a member of the Geneva Association.

Commenting on the hire, Mike Biggs, chairman of DLG, said: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to the DLG board as senior independent director. The board will benefit from his profound knowledge of the insurance industry and his experience as chairman and non-executive director of other firms in the sector. I would like to thank Andrew Palmer very much for acting as senior independent director since May 2015.”
