OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2005

- November: AIG Europe (UK) revamps its group personal accident and travel insurance product to reduce its perceived ambiguity. It claims Lifeline Plus includes improvements in 30 areas of the policy, following research that revealed business travellers were unclear about services available to them.

JANUARY - MARCH 2006

- March: AIG Group unveils net income for 2005 of $10.48bn (£5.5bn) (2004: $9.84bn). This includes an after-tax net catastrophe loss of $2.11bn.

APRIL - JUNE 2006

- April: AIG signs a £56.5m shirt sponsorship deal with Manchester United.

JULY - SEPTEMBER 2006

- July: AIG relaunches its UK affinity business and says it is looking to profit from a 45% growth in the health and protection market during the next three years. The affinity arm says it believes there is "untapped potential growth" in the health and protection market worth £223m.

- July: The insurer restructures its operations to form two arms: AIG Direct and AIG Affinity, which were previously known as UNAT Direct.

- August: AIG responds to the loss of its head of high net worth, Austyn Tusler, by revealing it will widen its footprint in this sector in 2006.

- September: AIG is reappointed as travel insurance provider for Opodo.
