Penny Black's Insurance Week - 24 April/1 May 2014

As a keen racegoer, Penny is always on the lookout for tips from some of the industry’s top bosses, some of whom have racehorses of their own.

However, Penny made a mental note never to back a tip from RSA’s outgoing UK and Western Europe boss Adrian Brown, after a conversation with his new employer. AJG international CEO David Ross told Penny that Brown brings many qualities to the broker, but the ability to pick a horse is not one. Ross predicted his most recent tip from Brown is unlikely to be a put out to stud, and more likely headed for a dog food can.

Last year, Post reported that Innovation Group’s head of business in property Ian Hogarth, then of LAS, had a lucky escape at the Boston Marathon when his wife injured a muscle midway through the run, delaying his arrival at the finish line. This year, he reports that – unsurprisingly – security was tight, with snipers sighted on rooftops and SWAT teams beside roads. Penny is thrilled to report that Hogarth completed his race in 4:40:06, reporting massive crowds and a fantastic atmosphere. Well done, Ian!
