Penny Black’s Social Diary: Insurtech Run Club; Qover’s divorce

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector's social media posts.

Runs over coffee

DistriBind marked the second day of Insurtech Week with a post about the Insurtech Run Club.

The insurance industry’s embrace of run clubs is fascinating to observe.

What was once the domain of serious marathon trainers and people who genuinely enjoy 6am alarms has now become the trendiest way to network.

The photos show happy, athletic-looking people gathered near Lloyd’s of London and St Paul’s Cathedral, which are considerably more photogenic than the historic networking haunts of Leadenhall Market pubs.

Crucially, it was a sunny run – a meteorological miracle in London until recently that probably made everyone feel like the universe was endorsing their fitness goals.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Pretzel stand

The Insurtech Insights 2026 conference featured a pretzel stand in the middle of the ground floor exhibition room, which was a welcome snack for those of us caught between endless meetings and panel debates.

Considering how long the queue for lunch was on both days, the pretzels were a needed stomach filler. Five stars.

Out of context

“It doesn’t matter if you divorce, because at the end, you will have another marriage to celebrate.”

Guillaume Roux, head of business development at Qover, carries on an endless marriage analogy for partnerships during a panel at Insurtech Insights 2026 conference.

Pride exposes prejudice LGBTQ+ individuals face in insurance

Editor’s View: LGBTQ+ network Link’s latest survey shows many insurance professionals still feel pressure to hide parts of themselves at work, which Emma Ann Hughes argues highlights the need for insurers to move beyond Pride branding and ‘pinkwashing’ to build actually inclusive cultures.
