Penny Black’s Social Diary: Lloyd’s festival; Dynatrace’s gnocchi

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Insurance’s fresh faces

Oh, the joys of youth! As a 185-year-old veteran of insurance, it truly gives me great pleasure to see the bright faces of the future lined up in London Market CEO Caroline Wagstaff’s LinkedIn post.

Her celebration of the conclusion of the Lloyd’s Future Academy through the Lime Street Festival gathered many well-wishers in the comments, with one saying they could hear the music all the way from their office.

While the music didn’t make its way to us in the Insurance Post offices, word of the festivities and freebies surely did, as well as a debatable celebrity appearance.

I was quite jealous of the ice cream and pizza stands as a dedicated foodie, but next year I’m sure my invite will be sitting in my inbox well in advance.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Penny Black Dynatrace

This vibrant butternut squash gnocchi with vegetables was a highlight of the Dynatrace conference, as our resident vegetarian at Post, senior reporter Tom Luckham, had very positive things to say about the taste and quality.

However, the individual portions were far from generous, so a trip to Greggs was also needed. Three stars.

Out of context

“Take a drink if someone comes on stage with a jumpsuit or you hear the word ‘money’.”

Lucy Porter, comedian and host of the Headlinemoney Awards, starts a fun drinking game particularly relevant for a room of financial journalists.

Content director’s view: With vinyl now as popular as it was in the 80s and Pokémon never being more collectible, could physical business cards make a comeback?
