Penny Black’s Social Diary: SEC Newgate’s C-spread; Open GI’s Spice Girl

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Fitness first

While I typically focus on adding rather than burning calories, I must tip my hat to Stella Insurance CEO Sam White’s recent LinkedIn transformation tale.

From overindulging at corporate lunches to crushing a 120KG squat personal best – now that’s what I call an impressive change!

The before-and-after photos spanning 24 years show a dramatic improvement and her journey from, as she puts it, “15-stone smoker” to fitness enthusiast was very inspiring.

As someone who’s been around since 1840, I appreciate a good before-and-after story, although I must admit my own transformation over the years has involved less weightlifting and more weighing in on industry buffets.

A huge thumbs up to Sam for her commitment to self-improvement, I was almost moved to pay a visit to the gym and that does not happen often.

Penny’s Lunch Box

SEC Newgate Winter Social Penny Black

SEC Newgate’s Winter Social would be a delight for anyone who enjoys an alphabetically aligned buffet spread.

Penny was offered crisps, chorizo, cheese and crackers. I’m unsure that the coordination was intentional, but it was the only interesting takeaway from that spread, unfortunately.

Five stars for alliteration but one star for the discomfort caused by my need to have a real meal afterwards.

Out of context

Richard E. Grant, Geri Horner, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton in Spice World (1997)
Ginger, Posh, and Baby were also unimpressed.

“Which one is married to Christian Horner?”

Neil Hart, chief sales officer of Open GI, fails to impress Penny with his knowledge of the Spice Girls.
