Hurricane strength index published
Carvill's readvisory group, a reinsurance intermediary, has today published a paper detailing a new index to measure hurricane damage. The Hurricane Damage Potential Index gives a more accurate measure of a hurricane’s potential to cause damage than existing indices. The index will help the insurance community to predict hurricane damage more realistically and effectively in the future as hurricanes approach landfall.
The HDPI will provide a sharper picture of potential damage for the insurance and related industries. The current Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale classifies hurricanes in categories from 1 to 5.
