NU to cut 4000 staff

Aviva has announced plans to reduce its headcount in its UK business - impacting both its general and life business - by 4000 over the next two years under plans to deliver annual cost savings of £250m in 2008 at a cost of £250m the end of 2007. It will involve up to 1000 jobs being moved to India.

NU said the savings and costs will be evenly spread between the life and general insurance businesses and in the life business.
