Government confirms sole trader EL exemption

Sole traders will no longer have to buy employers’ liability insurance from next year, following a Department for Work and Pensions consultation on whether to remove the requirement, the government announced today.

“Amending regulations” will be introduced later this year before the legislation formally comes into force early in 2005. Minister for work Jane Kennedy claimed the move could benefit the estimated
