US Treasury recovers £8bn after AIG stock sale

The US government made a profit of $12bn (£7.5bn) after selling $18bn worth of stock in America International Group on Monday.

The Treasury launched an initial public offering of AIG stock yesterday, selling 553 million shares at $32.50 each, according to reports.

AIG is said to have bought back $5bn worth of its shares
