Insurance fraud hits £1.34bn as criminals pursue higher-value claims

Insurance fraudsters are targeting bigger payouts, with insurers detecting £1.34bn worth of bogus claims in 2025, according to new figures from the Association of British Insurers.

The value of fraudulent claims detected by insurers increased 14% from £1.18bn in 2024, despite the number of detected cases falling 2.7% to 93,900.

The average value of a fraudulent claim rose to £14
