Penny Black's Insurance Week - 18 July 2013

For outgoing Allianz boss Andrew Torrance, his last day in the office on the 5th July , gave him a taste of what he might expect next year on the 4th July.

In order to send him off to his new job at Fireman’s Fund, the staff at Allianz decked out his office in stars and stripes and other US paraphernalia. Speculation that they hired in a bald eagle and only served turkey sandwiches in the canteen all day was unfortunately unfounded.

The Motor Insurer’s Bureau’s Ashton West has clocked up a fair few air miles in his time but his list of travel woes are comprehensive, from daily issues with London Midland’s poor train services to being involved in a major rail crash. His most recent adventure tops the list though, when he flew to Calgary in Canada to start a fly-drive adventure the day before the region suffered the worst floods in its history. Although not one to be superstitious, Penny believes that sometimes the world is trying to tell you something and in this case it is beware of travelling anywhere with Ashton, who was then stuck in the city for four days, after the parts of the trans-Canada Highway washed away.
