ABI warns members to prepare for EU gender ruling

In a letter sent by the Association of British Insurers to board members, acting director general Maggie Craig, has advised members to make the necessary preparations for a judgment by the European Court of Justice that as a general principle differences in premiums and benefits in insurance contracts based on gender are illegal.

The letter said that the ABI has received a legal analysis from senior counsel at Slaughter and May on the strengths and weaknesses of the Advocate General’s opinion.
