Penny Black's insurance week
While Penny amused herself over the festive break by taking in David Hasselhoff in pantomime, Crawford UK and Ireland CEO Benedict Burke took in the more rarefied and cultural surrounding of the National Theatre to watch Alan Ayckbourn's Season's Greetings.
However, despite a series of glowing reviews, including five stars in the Daily Mail and four in the Daily Telegraph and Times, Mr Burke did not agree with the nation's critics who described the play as 'riotously funny", "a cracker" and "hilarious". Pressed he revealed he was bored by the whole thing and would give it two out of 10. On his way home, Mr Burke spotted others who had been to the performance and after swapping details of that night's football results, he started exchanging his less than glowing thoughts on the play, only to be told by one of his fellow passengers that she was its producer. One suspects he may also choose a panto next year.
On a totally different tack, one is glad to see that the insurance market was approached for the latest series of the BBC programme, Saints and Scroungers. Often the butt of the media's barbed comments, the series features the accredited counter-fraud training provided by Questgates, with the loss adjuster due to be involved in the episodes due to be aired on BBC1 on 10 and 12 January, and 26 February. Presenter Dominic Littlewood, took part in three sessions covering the use of surveillance, evidence gathering and investigative interviewing delivered by Questgates' head of specialist fraud training, Andrew Whittaker, who said: "Dominic played an active role and quickly developed some excellent investigative skills, although there were times when we had to reign in his enthusiasm to ensure that he complied with the law and to demonstrate an ethical approach to the work."
