Consumer inflation soars to 4.4%
In July the Consumer Prices Index jumped 0.6% to 4.4%, twice the government's 2% target. Food inflation hit 13.7% last month (over the same month last year) and was a significant contributor to the jump in the CPI. The data makes it harder for the Bank of England to justify any cuts in interests rates soon.
