Protection market reprieve as government refuses redundancy insurance scheme
The government has rejected plans by Coventry South MP Jim Cunningham to establish a national wages and insurance scheme. In Parliament yesterday, Mr Cunningham asked parliamentary under secretary of state for trade and industry Jim Fitzpatrick, whether he has had discussions with (a) ministerial colleagues and (b) companies on the establishment of a national salaries and wages insurance scheme.
In response Mr Fitzpatrick said: "No discussions about this issue have been held either between DTI Ministers and their colleagues or by DTI Ministers with companies."
