Groupama has said that it will offer landlords insured by tenancy scheme Homelet who accept asylum seekers cover, although an "adjustment to the premium and policy cover may be required".
The move follows reports that Homelet, which is admistered through broker Hanover Park, had written to policyholders at renewal, warning it was unable to provide cover for properties occupied or likely to be occupied by asylum seekers.
In a joint Groupama/Homelet statement the companies said that although the scheme is not generally available to occupiers of a transient nature where they are unable to enter into such an agreement with the landlord.
"In some selected cases and for other highly specialist schemes, Groupama continues to offer cover for properties let to occupiers of a transient nature (such as asylum seekers), where they do not have a tenancy agreement as is required by the Homelet scheme," they added.
The Homelet scheme insures property let on assured shorthold tenancies.
