The Big Picture
Collinson Group, has featured in the new series of BBC One’s Claimed and Shamed. Mathew Crawford-Thomas, fraud manager at Collinson Group, recounted how he helped bring to justice two serial fraudsters who claimed against multiple policies with different insurers for claims totaling some £180,000. Robert Spindloe, director of claims, added in a statement: “Mathew’s substantial evidence, gathered over several months, was crucial in enabling the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department to investigate and ultimately prosecute these repeat fraudsters for their crimes. He is a credit to the claims profession in terms of his commitment to raising the profile of travel insurance fraud and doing the best by our clients.”

The Big Debate
Are there enough “insurance people” running insurance companies? Former Aviva group executive director Patrick Snowball told Post this week that many of the UK’s major general insurance companies are suffering because their boards have turned the businesses into pseudo-banks, and manage them accordingly to pacify the authorities. Snowball lamented the lack of “general insurance people” currently running GI organisations. How important is it for general insurance companies to be run by people with extensive insurance backgrounds?
