A fresh face in the cyber insurance market, rrelentless has made a striking first impression – enough to earn the Best Newcomer Award at the 2025 British Insurance Awards.

In less than 18 months since launch, the business has established itself as a credible disruptor in a highly competitive space, combining legal expertise and insurance in a way that has resonated across the industry.

With just one product in market, rrelentless has already achieved seven figures in gross written premium and this significantly accelerated when the business entered its second year of trading only a few months ago – matching its year-one premiums in just one quarter.

While the financials are impressive, it was the proposition’s structure and ambition that won over the British Insurance Awards judging panel. The business was founded with the goal of “rethinking risk and redesigning insurance”, an objective underpinned by its innovative integration of proactive risk management and legal services within the policy itself.

The firm entered the market working in close collaboration with legal and risk management provider rradar and supported by insurance capacity from Axa.

This tri-party relationship formed the backbone of a proposition designed not only to cover cyber-related losses, but to actively help policyholders prevent them.

At the heart of this approach is a range of embedded services including regulatory advice, legal support, real-time guidance through a smart legal assistant app, and a market-leading online library of legally verified, award-winning content, designed to support and be used by organisations to minimise risk.

rrelentless was held in great esteem for a successful collaboration between the legal and insurance sectors, producing a proposition that both builds resilience and mitigates against risk for policyholders.

As one judge put it: “The numbers the business has achieved in its first 12 months should not be sniffed at, especially when you consider the competition and failure of other highly touted entrants to achieve similar cut-through in a notoriously difficult market. Definitely a business to watch over the coming years.”

Customer engagement figures reinforced the strength of the proposition. While digital uptake in legal services is typically low, rrelentless policyholders engaged with the platform’s digital risk management tools at levels an order of magnitude greater than industry averages.

Similarly, engagement in the firm’s monthly cyber threat newsletter achieved more than seven times the industry benchmark – testimony to its strength and value in helping real businesses understand the tangible risks from cyber threats. Multiple educational webinars were also delivered to support policyholders’ resilience against emerging cyber risks.

Although still at an early stage, the rrelentless model has shown real potential for scale.

The business has already secured long-term distribution agreements to support the release of several new products over the course of 2025 and into 2026, each designed with the same embedded risk-prevention approach. This forward pipeline was considered further evidence of a proposition that is both sustainable and expandable across different commercial lines.
