Allianz has confirmed that it is the lead insurer for Malaysia Airlines, the company whose flight MH370 disappeared on Saturday.

There has been no sign of the plane, which was carrying 239 passangers and crew en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, although families have been told to prepare for the worst with terrorism being considered as one line of investigation.

A spokesman for Allianz said: "Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty can confirm that it is the lead insurer for Malaysia Airlines (for aviation hull and liability coverage). We extend our sympathy to all those affected by the loss of flight MH370, and will be working closely with co-insurers to support our client, Malaysia Airlines, as fully and quickly as possible."

A spokesman for Willis confirmed that the company is the broker to Malaysia Airlines for their hull and liability programmes but said was not in a position to comment further.
