With around $1bn premium volume, the pet insurance market in the UK is by far the world's biggest - but increasing competition and rising vet fees over the past few years have seen what was once fertile ground become a highly contested area, with a large pool of carriers fighting for those pet lovers devoted enough to fork out for rising premiums.

According to research by Munich Re, 11 insurers currently hold 90% of the UK pet insurance market. Growing competition has led many of these to increase their advertising spend in a bid to build
