Penny Black's Insurance Week - 3 October 2013

It’s good to know brokers always conform to certain stereotypes, and a love of golf and an inability to make time for a phone call are among them.

“I’m on the final hole at the golf course,” Peter Rocca, president of Canada’s RDA Insurance told Penny. “Can you call me back? I’m just about to score an eagle!” Rocca didn’t get his eagle, notching a birdie instead. “That wasn’t because of you. I’m just not a very good golfer!” Rocca exclaimed, while Penny breathed a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, the sheer scale of fundraising completed by sporty industry do‑gooders every year can sometimes leave spectators like Penny disinclined to sponsor a stream of budding fun-runners. However, every so often one must doff one’s hat (a sombrero, since you asked) to a truly impressive effort. Unperturbed by being caught up in the tragic Boston Marathon bombings in April, LAS business development director Ian Hogarth took to the streets of Berlin last weekend to run the last of the top-five global marathons on his to-do list. What’s more, he’ll be back on the start line in Boston next year to finish what he started. Bravo, Ian.
