Penny Black's Insurance Week - 11 July 2013

Penny is used to rubbing shoulders with leading lights, but was surprised to come face-to-face with a TV star at the International Underwriting Association’s summer party on Thursday.

The event involved a cupcake decorating seminar from The Apprentice’s own Luisa Zissman.

While Luisa remained tight-lipped on her fortunes, some took her appearance to mean she had not triumphed in her quest to become Sir Alan Sugar’s joint venture partner. A number of wits let forth with murmurs of “you’re fired” and “where’s Sugar hiding?”.

One was most amused – Luisa less so.

Having frequented a fair few British Insurance Awards as the UK’s premier insurance aficionado, Penny does not say it lightly when she suggests that 2013 could well be remembered as the best yet.

Not only was the Royal Albert Hall once again packed with the industry’s finest, but the venue was also rocked to its foundations when hundreds of penguin-suited 40-somethings were transported back to the 1980s by The Human League.

Nowhere more was the euphoria better captured than across the way from Penny, where a previously demure group were soon sending bread rolls flying having climbed onto their table for a boogie...
