The news that a 13-strong property team has defected to Allianz Cornhill from Norwich Union raised a few eyebrows last week (PM, 30 March, p1).
Teams move all the time so this was nothing new but the fact Allianz Cornhill was doing the hiring was. One source close to the insurer admitted that if they had gone to Axa or Zurich it would not have been so surprising.
Whether this signals a more aggressive period for Allianz Cornhill only time will tell but Andrew Torrance's charges look to be trying to make their mark in a sector that is reportedly becoming more competitive, with renewed pushes from the likes of Zurich and Royal and Sun Alliance's 'win back' campaign.
