Fortis reports Euro 28bn loss although international GI arm is in the black

Fortis this morning reported that its insurance activities reported a total net profit of EUR 6m in 2008, including a negative impact from write-downs on the investment portfolio of EUR 639m net-of-tax.

Fortis's overall 2008 net result was a loss of EUR 28.0 bn compared with a profit of EUR 4.0bn in 2007.
