New study looks at US MedMal awards

US medical malpractice awards are increasing in line with health care costs and are probably not the main driver of soaring malpractice premiums as portrayed by many doctors, according to a new study.

An analysis of 184 500 malpractice payments from 1991 to 2003 from a national data bank has been published in the journal Health Affairs. The study found that the cases that get the most publicity
