Penny Black’s Insurance Week - 4 June 2015

Penny is rather partial to a bit of fine dining - particularly when it's taking place in Europe's highest garden space - so she jumped at the chance to lunch with some of Crawford & Co's finest at Fenchurch Street's Sky Garden.

Over the dessert course - a more-conservative-than-usual cheeseboard, as one of Post's representatives is following what Penny considers a rather foolish diet - a life without cake is a life not worth living, Penny always says - Crawford chief executive officer, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, Ian Muress, shared a tale about a rather extraordinary telephone box in Atlanta, US. Apparently, while on a business trip to the city, Muress received a phone call from a colleague requesting his presence at a local bar - but upon asking where the bar was located, Muress was directed to a bright-red telephone box.

Despite his trepidation, the hardy soul located the phone box and dialled a phone number he found inside. Moments later, the floor of the telephone box disappeared beneath his feet - and Muress found himself sliding into a smoke-filled bar. Penny now eyes the telephone boxes she walks past on her daily stroll with a mixture of suspicion and veneration.
