Penny Black’s Insurance Week - 4 December

There is nothing like adversity to bring people together, especially when it is being played out in both the national media and the insurance trade press.

This is exactly what happened during a recent Sunday league football match when Towergate underwriting supremo Clive Nathan and Laurence Beck of Quindell-owned Accident Advice Helpline shared war stories over the half-time oranges. Both play for the same football team and, although one does not know what the score was that day, Penny suspects it wouldn’t take much for their shared result to improve on that of their employers. Also this week, Penny was lucky enough to briefly grasp the lapels of Marsh UK and Ireland boss Mark Weil and ask the question everyone wants to know. “So Mark,” Penny enquired. “Towergate?” Weil paused for a minute that seemed eternal. Penny’s fingers grew sweaty on her pen as she realised she was about to grasp the biggest scoop of the year. “Towergate,” Weil replied. “Who are they?” The Marsh CEO chuckled as he disappeared, and Penny let out an audible sob.
