Penny Black's Insurance Week - 17 October 2013

Penny was delighted to be among the guests when the great and good of the insurance claims world assembled last week for the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters annual lunch.

Alongside copious amounts of booze, and the odd toast to the monarchy, Penny was thrilled to see CILA executive director Malcolm Hyde take to the podium to warm up the crowd. Hyde informed the assembled masses that the event had sold out almost as rapidly as Glastonbury. “While we don’t have the Rolling Stones, we certainly hope you will get your satisfaction!” Hyde punned to a room suddenly full of groans.

As the lunch wore on, CILA president Candy Holland also arose to address the increasingly sozzled masses. Holland was full of praise for the role of the loss adjuster, even going as far as to describe her fellow CILA members as an “essential lubricant” to the insurance business. Amid the raucous cheers, Penny distinctly remembers thinking that if adjusters were the lubricant, there were enough whetted whistles in the room to last them for another 12 months.
