My Best XI... Phil Sharpe, Ace

Phil Sharpe's best 11

Phil Sharpe, chief operating officer for UK and Ireland at Ace, selects his best XI for an insurance industry start-up. Lining up next to a trio of his Ace colleagues are a pair of big-hitters from Aon behind an unpredictable strike duo in the form of a Liverpool legend and a Las Vegas-based rock star.

1. Rob Brown (Aon) (GK)
A fortress-like presence in goal, Rob will lead the team superbly. Nothing gets past him

2. David Moss (G4S) (RB)
His experience and wisdom when it comes to security will add an extra dimension to the team’s defence

3. Karen Bain (JLT) (LB)
Karen’s wine-drinking capabilities and enthusiasm for horse racing, coupled with being an avid Arsenal fan, will enable her to steward the back four

4. Melanie Killick (Ace) (CM)
Melanie’s organisational skills will bring some much-needed discipline. Can also help the manager with his team notes

5. John Line (Ace) (CB)
John is an insurance market legend. Solid in defence and unflappable under pressure, he will be our four-man wall

6. Mark Stephenson (Liberty) (CB)
His knowledge of the various Barcelonas within the Square Mile should come in handy for European fixtures at the Nou Camp

7. Stuart Kilpatrick (Barbican) (RM)
Renowned for his footwork, Stuart’s ability to dribble past the opposition should transfer well to the football field

8. Steve Redgwell (Aon) (CM)
Although Steve’s knees may set off the airport scanners when travelling abroad for the Champions League, he’ll come in handy for near-post flick-ons with that glistening head of his

9. Kenny Dalglish (ST)
Arguably the best player ever, King Kenny’s attacking play and management skills of the five-time European champions make him the lynchpin of the team

10. Brandon Flowers (ST)
The frontman has the flamboyance of a striker and should have the Killer touch up front

11. Andy Macfarlane (Ace) (LM)
As a Scotsman, he’s not used to being on the winning team but he will be excellent at soaking up abuse from the opposition
