Post asks Claims Conference Asia - Hong Kong keynote speaker Chin Feng, CEO of Hong Kong & Greater China, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty about his career, China and claims.

Post: Can you give us a brief history of your career?

Feng, pictured: I have over 15 years in the Asia and US insurance markets. Before taking on this role, my last job was head of financial lines Asia, ACGS based in Singapore after initially assuming the role in Hong Kong in July 2009. I have worked chin-feng-agcs-4000with some of the largest financial companies in China looking to IPO in the US and Hong Kong.

Where are you seeing growth and opportunities in China?

Some are worried about the economic slowdown but we feel there are still great niche opportunities. We see partnering with Chinese companies who are looking at investing in overseas infrastructure as important (for example mining in South Africa); this could include insurers who are not willing to take all of the overseas risk or do not have the capacity or capability abroad – we can tap our global network. We can issue policies and share the risk.

We are also developing new products such as cyber and reputational risk (to launch in June) and are working closely with our trade credit insurer Euler Hermes on the distribution of products through the likes of banks.

We are also looking at furthering our offerings for SMEs and the film industry, and we are excited by the potential of our Worldwide Care product.

How can you help keep your claims’ team enthused and give some good job satisfaction?

We believe it is important to retain talent by keeping people motivated and helping their career development. We are looking carefully at what keeps people motivated. We feel it is important for our claims team to meet clients, present claims’ scenarios, help underwriters and to complement our overall marketing efforts.

We have also appointed Alexander Mack, the most senior member of our claims team, onto the main board last March.
