Video: Claims edition – Whiplash

The UK has been described as the whiplash capital of Europe and Association of British Insurers figures state that 78% of low-value motor personal injury claims in the UK are for whiplash – well above the 48% recorded across the rest of Europe

Editor Stephanie Denton in conversation with Allianz' head of motor claims Sarah Mallaby about whiplash

In May the UK government closed its latest consultation into whiplash, which sought feedback on the need to introduce fixed fees for medical examinations, discouraging settlement offers being made before medical reports have been obtained and the imperative of independence in the commissioning and provision of reports. Many of these proposals have been endorsed by the Transport Select Committee and all of them have caused significant debate between insurers and the legal profession.

Sarah Mallaby, head of motor claims at Allianz Insurance, joined Post editor Stephanie Denton in the Incisive Studio to discuss the prohibiting of pre-medical offers rather than an outright ban, the issue of vested interest and independent medical panels and the question of proposed fixed fees.
