Aon is in the process of suing rival broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson over the departure of some of their aviation broking staff, Reinsurance can reveal.
Deputy chairman Bill Smith, Jonathan Palmer-Brown, Hong Kong-based broker Martin Trumper all left the broker and moved to JLT.
Aon is said to be suing JLT for breach of contract, amongst other violations.
JLT confirmed that Aon and itself were in court proceedings, saying: "At this point we can only confirm that we are in court proceedings with Aon”, but did not go into further detail.
An Aon spokesman did not mention their former employees, but admitted legal action was taking place: "I can confirm that we have initiated legal proceedings that relate to our enforcement of the contractual and fiduciary duties of our employees and the protection of Aon’s confidential information. The decision to initiate legal proceedings is never taken lightly. The movement of employees from one company to another is a normal feature of our marketplace. However, where we believe employees are breaching their legal obligations, we will not shy from taking appropriate action against them and other involved parties."

To achieve a sustainable profit, personal lines insurers need to transform their retention rates, using modern communications techniques to engage with customers and understand their individual needs. This white paper is based on a specially commissioned study involving 42 senior managers at UK and Irish insurers.
The complex patchwork of legislation and guidance governing work equipment risks in the UK is an administrative monster that many businesses struggle to wrestle with successfully. It takes significant levels of technical expertise and resources to understand and effectively navigate the maze of legal requirements, and this problem grows increasingly unwieldy for smaller organisations with limited manpower and finances.
