According to market sources, Mr Keeling will oversee the group's UK, European, Asia Pacific and Bermudian operations.

Nick Frankland, Guy Carpenter's current CEO of UK and Europe, will continue in his role, market sources said.

Market sources said that both Frankland and Nash will report to Keeling.

Mr Keeling retired as COO of XL on 1 August 2008 after Mike McGavick was promoted to CEO.
