Insured catastrophe losses were $27bn in 2015, says Munich Re

Overall losses totalled $90bn last year compared to $110bn in 2014 and a thirty year average since 1985 of $130bn.  23,000 people died below the last 30 year average of 54,000 but far more than the 7700 who died in 2014. The costliest disaster for insurers and reinsurers were a series of winter storms in February in the US and Canada which cost them $2.1bn (the total was $2.8bn). Another costly disaster for the insurance industry was clearing up a powerful storm in New South Wales, Austr
