Global insured disaster losses hit $54bn in 2016: Swiss Re

A combination of earthquakes, flooding, storms and wildfires across the globe resulted in the highest global insured losses since 2012, reversing the downtrend of the previous four years. According to Sigma, there were 327 disaster events in 2016, of which 191 were natural catastrophes and 136 were man-made.
