Insurers have traditionally been reluctant to underwrite Arctic shipping: the risks of injuries and pollution have been high and unpredictable.
That could change with the adoption of the Polar Code, expected to come into force in 2017. These safety and environmental regulations should bring them certainties and opportunities.
