British Insurance Awards Countdown: Who went from being a Young Achiever to running an award-winning business in two decades?

Managing General Agent Of The Year

There are now just two days to go to get your British Insurance Awards entries in [closing date: 11 March]

This was the time in decades [20 years] that elapsed between Phil Cunningham being crowned as the first ever Young Achiever winner in 1999 as a deputy underwriter at Torch Motor Policies at Lloyd’s, and the business he founded in 2002: Direct Commercial, winning Managing General Agent of the Year.

When asked, in January 2019, where he kept the Young Achiever award, Cunningham told Post: “On my desk in my office. It’s a reminder of a great achievement, which we hope to replicate one day with Direct Commercial.”

His dream came true just six months later at the Royal Albert Hall, when Direct Commercial picked up its first award on 10 July, (pictured).
