Penny Black’s Social Diary: Zurich’s Baker show; Insurtech chocolate

Social Diary

Penny Black is back, sharing the tittle-tattle she overheard at insurance industry events, reviewing the quality of buffets at conferences and giving a thumbs up – or down – to the sector’s social media posts.

Zurich’s TV treatment

Zurich clearly decided that if you’re going to host an all-staff update, you might as well make it prime-time worthy.

Drazen Jaksic, CEO of Zurich UK, took to LinkedIn to reveal the insurer’s latest employee roadshow had been reimagined as a TV-style broadcast, which is a bold move in a sector more used to PowerPoint than production values.

In a move that raised more than a few eyebrows (in a good way), the show featured none other than BBC Countryfile presenter Matt Baker as host.

“We were thrilled to be joined by BBC Countryfile’s Matt Baker, who brought energy, warmth, and a fantastic sense of curiosity as our host. His involvement helped turn the event into something truly memorable,” wrote Jaksic.

Full marks for ambition and trying something different with internal communications.

Penny’s Lunch Box

Chocolate giveaway on day two of Insurtech Insights? Don’t mind if I do.

However, turning attendees into edible replicas via a machine is where things took a slightly dystopian turn.

Five stars for taste. Two stars for confronting Penny with what can only be described as her ‘ageing in cocoa’ likeness.

Out of context

“I hope you had a good time yesterday and hopefully an even better time yesterday evening.”

Matt Ferguson, managing partner at Sonr, kicks off day two of the Insurtech Insights conference in London.
