Penny black's insurance week

penny-black

Penny is getting sick of this cold weather, although the freak blizzards in Kent on 17 December added a surreal element to Towergate's Moroccan themed soiree that saw marketing boss Marc DonFrancesco kitted out as a camel and CEO Andy Homer masquerading as a sheikh.

Unfortunately, 100 or so guests were stranded overnight at the event held at a county showground in England's garden. Others, including Messrs Homer and DonFrancesco, boarded a coach, which crawled along the motorway towards the broker's HQ in Maidstone. When travelling by bus got too difficult they opted to finish the journey on foot and walked the rest of the way along the motorway, still in costume of course, back to the office where they then kipped for the night.

Meanwhile, Penny hopes that poor Graeme Trudgill has recovered from a nasty incident before Christmas when he was hit by a BMW when driving to work. When Biba's technical and corporate affairs executive got out his car to assess the damage and exchange details, he couldn't help but wonder if the fact the other driver could neither remember the name of his insurer or write down his own registration number correctly was mere coincidence.

The advertising budget clearly isn't suffering at Compare the Market, whose recently launched ad, or should I say movie, The Journey of Courageousness features Aleksandr Orlov's meerkat ancestors on a (60 second) voyage over land, sand and sea to Russia. Competitors, who have again opted for the celebrity option this year — including the ever so slightly disturbing Swiftcover 'little Iggy' — may have to pray that those still unaware of the difference between the aggregator and its mammal equivalent will be sick of being reminded within weeks.
