Penny Black's Insurance Week - 3 July 2014

Penny was lucky enough to spend a splendid day quaffing champagne and eating lobster while watching the tennis at Wimbledon last week.

Not quite so lucky, however, was a host PR from Ageas when a waitress lost her footing and spilt three ice-cold glasses of bubbly down her back. Jumping to her feet with a screech to match Maria Sharapova, said PR was quickly ushered to the restrooms to wash the offending beverage out, while Penny returned to her strawberries – after all, one sees nothing wrong with showering in champers.
Meanwhile, Penny is no stranger to bizarre legacy requests – indeed, it seems like only yesterday Hunter S Thompson had his ashes fired by cannon into the Colorado sky. But even she was surprised by John Lewis’s head of financial services, John Brady, this week, who told delegates at Post’s Affinity event of a customer so devoted that she asked for her remains to be scattered in her local store upon her demise. It is not known if the customer in question had a particular aisle in mind for such an admirable show of brand loyalty but, regardless, Penny suspects it’s a plan unlikely to win any backing from the Health and Safety Executive.
