Penny Black's Insurance Week - 6 March 2014

Penny has heard of pets looking like their owners, but pets named after their owner’s employer? That’s a new one.

Step forward LV head of financial crime Sue Jones, who owns a cat with the curious moniker of Mr Rogers – who is not, she hastens to add, named after LV’s own chief executive Mike Rogers. Instead, Jones spins a fishy tale of an adopted animal with a previous identity. That name, notably, was not Mr Rogers. Penny remains unconvinced. Mr Rogers the insurance boss, meanwhile, has a pet Labrador, but sadly it’s not named Ms Jones.

Talking of formal titles, Aviva’s Mark Wilson was on stage this week waxing lyrical about his passion for economics, inspired by one Mr Murphy, his erstwhile economics teacher. Wilson said his former educator was a big fan of notable economist Milton Friedman, but the Aviva boss added that he remembers his teacher more for “a remarkable resemblance to Papa Smurf”. “He had a round glasses and a big white beard, and he was very wise,” Wilson added. No word on blue skin or a refusal to wear any clothes on his top half, but Penny retains hope.
