Thailand considers compulsory travel insurance
Thailand's government is considering introducing compulsory travel insurance for all tourists following a series of serious incidents.
According to Sky News Australia officials at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports are considering the proposals.
The director of Tourism and Sports Jaturon Phakdeewanit said visitors without travel insurance were costing Thailand at least 3bn baht (£68m) a year for treatment in state hospitals adding the problem is worsening following a spate of recent serious incidents - including many traffic accidents.
Government officials are in talks with tourism operators before submitting a proposal to cabinet.
Travel insurance documents would likely need to be inspected at immigration counters upon arrival.
