Claims Awards Asia 2015: the winners

The winners of the Claims Awards Asia 2015 were announced on 10 September at the Regent Hotel, Singapore.

Following the successful inaugural Claims Conference Asia - Singapore, the winners and shortlists of the Claims Awards Asia 2015 were announced at a cocktail reception in front of around 100 claims professionals:

Claims Service Provider of the Year

Willis Processing Services India

The winner started an academy within the last year with a lunch and learn programme for insurance and legal professionals in Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. The academy addressed complex and important issues such as business interruption calculations and cyber liability, and the seminars were accredited by the Singapore Institute of Legal Education and the Hong Kong Law Society.

The winner helped rebuild lives after devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir in September last year which affected over 2500 villages. The winning insurer arrived at the scene before its own government and other insurers. The team settled 20,000 property claims in just three months; dealing with over 500 claims a day - the winner had a comprehensive action plan. One judge said: “A great example of an insurer rising to the challenge in difficult circumstance to deliver on their promise and to make their customers’ lives just a little bit easier.”

Claims Innovation of the Year

The winner impressed the judges by showing how the latest technology can improve customers’ lives. The company has embraced the use of social media application Whatsapp for clients to share documents and help facilitate instant cashless claims settlement. This has helped reach people throughout the country in the remotest areas, speeded up medical check up reporting and reducing the claims turnaround.

Claims Legal Services Provider of the Year

The winner worked on some high profile disputes in the region over the last 12 months and established close connections to the insurance industry via the Female Insurance Group Asia. The law firm also has some excellent client testimonials and is showing its commitment to the region via investment in staff.

Broker Claims Team of the Year

The winner implemented a comprehensive plan for worker injury risk management through experts and online capabilities. As an independent manager of the rehabilitation process the winning broker managed to implement early notification, early intervention and early return to work. Saving money and premiums the programme has been well received by some major companies and impressed the judges.

The winner is Jardine Lloyd Thompson Asia

Young Achiever of the Year

Post believe it is extremely important for the claims’ profession to encourage and nurture young talent - hence this award. For showing a passion for her work, from becoming trainee to trainer she has become one of the main driving forces in a large and well drilled organisation.

The winner is Kanchi Soni, Willis Processing Services India

Claims Awards Asia - Lifetime achievement award

Our first Lifetime Achievement Award went to a leading insurance industry figure in Asia over a period of many years, as both a senior loss adjuster and senior claims manager, during which time he established Thomas Howell’s Hong Kong office, and acted as regional director for both THG and McLarens, before taking the role as Swiss Re’s regional head of claims and liability management for well over a decade. Our winner is highly regarded by colleagues and peers across the industry.
