NHS to foot the bill for negligence claims against private firm

Complications following a number of cataract operations carried out on NHS patients by mobile theatre provider Vanguard Healthcare has again raised questions about the indemnity arrangements of private healthcare firms taking on NHS work.

Vanguard Healthcare was approached by Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset, in February 2014 to help clear a backlog of cataract patients. The initial contract was to do 600 cataract operations
