Penny Black’s Insurance Week - 5 March

Penny has often wondered about changes to the DVLA rules on older drivers behind the wheel.

But having been around and mobile since the mid-19th Century she has always avoided asking directly in case she hears something she does not want to hear. So at the recent Post Claims Club event in the city, she listened intently as the ABI’s Rob Cummings touched on the subject. Apparently, older ladies are involved in increasing amounts of accidents, he explained to a captivated audience. What has been happening, Cummings said, is that women are only learning to drive after spending 30 or 40 years being driven around by their husbands, who have then sadly died. So Penny entreats road users far and wide - if you see a more experienced female behind the wheel, give them plenty of space and time. They’ve suffered enough without the added upset of a fender bender.
