David has responsibility for a wide range of editorial and production functions at Incisive Media, including editorial standards and strategy – whether in print, in person or online – recruitment, training – including the company’s successful graduate recruitment programme – legal support and the delivery of design and production services. This includes editorial and production teams in London, New York and Hong Kong.
He is best known for his work as a financial journalist, in particular as a writer on the insurance industry which he has been covering for over 25 years. As well as previously editing Post Magazine, Reinsurance and Insurance Age, he has appeared on radio and TV commenting on insurance matters. Wrote as a freelance for The Guardian for several years and has written for many other national newspapers. Frequent speaker at conferences and seminars. Three times winner of the Insurance Journalist of the Year Award, most recently in 2005. Winner of Best General Insurance Journalist at 1999 Financial Services Media Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Chief Executive’s Award for Outstanding Achievement at the 2007 Incisive Media Awards.
Launched the British Insurance Awards in 1995, which now attracts nearly 2000 people to the Royal Albert Hall every year, and also launched the Rehabilitation First Awards in 2005 and the Cover Magazine Protection Awards in 2003. Acted as a judge for all of these awards and also judges various media awards run by the Periodical Publishers Association and the Periodicals Training Council.
Established the All Party Parliamentary Group on Insurance & Financial Services in 1991 which now has over sixty MPs drawn from all three major parties and both Houses of Parliament in membership. President of the Presse Internationale des Assurances 2000-02. President of the Insurance Charities 2003-04 and currently Chair of its Marketing and Fundraising Committee. Freeman of the City of London and member of the Worshipful Company of Insurers.
